Ancient Messene — One of Greece’s Best‑Preserved Classical Cities

From Athens, Messene is roughly a 230 km (≈2 hr 45 min) drive. If flying in, Kalamata Airport is about 30 km (≈30 min) away.

Best time to visit:
Spring and autumn offer pleasant weather and blooming landscapes. Summer visits are popular but can be hot and exposed, since many parts of the site lack shade.

Planning your visit:
A combined ticket usually includes both the archaeological site and the museum. Bring comfy walking shoes, water, sunscreen, and a hat — the site is large and uneven in places.
