THE JOURNEY

Our Mystical Mainland tour begins in Athens, the heart of civilization and a city of captivating contrasts. We welcome you under the stars, offering dramatic views of the Acropolis and a delicious Greek dinner to kick off your adventure. The next day, embark on an in-depth private guided tour of Athens, where you’ll delve into the city’s rich history, ancient landmarks, and vibrant culture with our expert local guide. Visit iconic sites like the Acropolis, Parthenon, Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the Kallimarmaro stadium, while uncovering the fascinating stories behind each. Visit the Acropolis Museum, where you’ll marvel at the treasures that bring Athens’ ancient past to life. Explore charming neighborhoods and hidden historical gems, with personalized insights along the way. This exclusive experience invites you to immerse yourself in Athens at your own pace, ensuring an unforgettable journey through Greece’s timeless capital.

As you delve into Delphi, you’ll find yourself in one of the most breathtaking valleys imaginable, touching a place of unparalleled beauty and historical significance. Home to the revered pan-Hellenic sanctuary where the oracle of Apollo once spoke, Delphi was believed to be the site of the omphalos—the ‘navel of the world.’ Blending seamlessly with its awe-inspiring surroundings and imbued with sacred meaning, Delphi stood as the religious heart and unifying symbol of the ancient Greek world in the 6th century BC. Savor authentic Greek meze at a local tavern, with fresh, home-cooked dishes and stunning views of Itea’s olive groves. Experience Arachova, one of Greece’s most picturesque mountain villages, known for its traditional charm, vibrant culture, and breathtaking views of the Parnassus mountains. Enjoy free time to explore the village’s shops, then indulge in a traditional dinner while tasting “Formaela,” Arachova’s famous local cheese, known for its distinct flavor.

Next, visit Nafpaktos and explore its 15th-century Venetian port, a captivating mix of history and natural beauty, with ancient walls, cobbled streets, and a picturesque harbor that transports you back in time. Head to Amfilochia for a relaxing lunch by the waterfront, taking in the serene views of the Ambracian Gulf. Then, journey onward to Ioannina, one of Greece’s hidden gems. Life in this enchanting city revolves around the romantic, silver-grey waters of Lake Pamvotis, a natural wonder formed between 20,000 and 26,000 years ago, as confirmed by geologists at Cambridge University.

Explore Zagoria, a land of awe-inspiring mountain landscapes and vast skies where golden eagles glide. Perched high above Vikos Gorge—the deepest in the world—this region reveals a different Greece, where civilizations and landscapes converge between the Pindus mountain range and the Ionian Sea. Explore scenic villages, proudly showcasing the architecture of stone, slate, and wood to complete the ambiance. Cross graceful arched bridges, and discover ancient fountains, rare flowers, and diverse wildlife in one of the country’s most breathtaking natural landscapes. Enjoy a lunch at Kikitsa’s, savoring her famous handmade “pites,” a beloved local specialty. Take a trip to the Monastery of Agia Paraskevi, established in 1414, and immerse yourself in the wisdom and spirituality of its sole monk, Helias. Wrap up your day with a memorable dinner in Ioannina and let the atmosphere and local flavors create the perfect conclusion to your experience.

Step into the Byzantine Castle of Ioannina and explore the Silversmithing Museum, home to extraordinary collections showcasing the region’s rich craftsmanship. Embark on a scenic journey to Metsovo, a charming mountain town nestled in the heart of the Pindus Mountains. Known for its breathtaking views, Metsovo offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural richness. Stroll through its cobbled streets, surrounded by lush forests and towering peaks. Taste the renowned Katogi Averoff wines, celebrated for their unique flavors and deep connection to the region’s history and traditions. Immerse yourself in the town’s timeless heritage with a visit to the open-air Folk Art Museum, housed in the beautifully restored Tossizza Manor, originally built in 1661, where the spirit of centuries past comes to life. Savor a traditional dinner seated next to a crackling fireplace, where the warmth of the fire complements the rich flavors of local dishes.

Arrive at Meteora and immerse yourself in the profound spirituality of this awe-inspiring place. Witness towering pillars of rock, shaped by prehistoric rivers and crowned by otherworldly monasteries. These remarkable structures cling to steep cliffs, standing as monuments to the enduring power of faith, accessible only to the most devoted seekers. The dramatic landscape and spiritual significance of these sacred sites make for an awe-inspiring experience, blending natural wonder with human devotion. Enjoy a delicious lunch featuring local dishes, all while sitting under the shade of the Meteora hills.

Take in the serene atmosphere and breathtaking views of Meteora before continuing your journey to Thermopylae. There, pay tribute to the legendary hero King Leonidas at his memorial, honoring his bravery and sacrifice. Standing in the shadow of history, you’ll feel a deep connection to one of Greece’s most heroic moments. Finally, journey back to Athens, carrying with you the echoes of history and the beauty of Greece’s sacred landscapes.

A trip of a lifetime! It is almost impossible to describe the breathtaking views of natural wonders, remote ancient villages and monuments of history that were part of the tour. The entire time we were well cared for, catered to and given detailed information of both history and current Greek culture. Loved it all!
